My name is Sam Agra, but some call me “Tito Sam”. I am 62 years old. I was born in the Philippines and came to America in 1985. I’ve been married for 29 years to Remy, and we have 2 children, Jeremih and Pia Joy.
In 1995, I got my medical license and since then practicing my medical profession in Los Angeles. I finished my Family Medicine Residency training in 1997 and currently a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. As a medical doctor, I see a lot of patients with chronic diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension, that can easily be solved with proper nutrition and physical activity.
For many years, I was involved in sports such as bowling, karate, and golfing. I was a part of bowling leagues. I practiced the art of Karate, became an instructor and a second-degree black belt of the Japan Karate Association. I also competed in many tournaments locally and internationally. I then found my love for golf and used most of my free time away from work golfing.
Although I’ve always been involved and loved these sports, I know that I was not physically fit for the last 15 years and wanted to find a gym to get more active. At my heaviest weight, I was 185 lbs at 5’4.
For the last few years, I’ve also had back problems and pain. I tried everything from buying many different machines/equipment, physical therapy, chiropractors, massages, etc. None of which really resolved the pain. When I went to the Philippines last year, my very good friend mentioned he started doing crossfit. He said that crossfit has helped his back problems. And when I came back to America from my vacation, I searched for a crossfit gym nearby and came across Ganbatte.
I did my first intro class and was really impressed with the things I learned in my intro class. Coach Jp gave a very thorough explanation on why we do things and movement. We checked out other facilities near by, but nothing is up to par with my experience with Ganbatte.
I love Ganbatte because the coaches always help and encourage me to do my best. I love the camaraderie of the members and how everyone is like family. I’m glad I gave Ganbatte a chance. I never saw myself as an athlete in my age. With consistency and constantly wanting to learn. I can now backsquat and deadlift more than 200 lbs. I am now able to keep up with people half my age at the work outs. My back pain is gone, and I haven’t felt this healthy and fit in years. Im probably fitter than I was during my younger years.
You owe yourself an hour a day to yourself. An hour of physical fitness ( doing it correctly). I look forward to my visits to my gym/box/Ganbatte. I look forward to seeing my coaches and friends. I look forward to getting better and stronger. This is one of the best investments in my life.
